Fall Climbing (Sep 21-22, 2014)

Weekend Climbing on Saddle Mtn and Gmoser Route on Mt. Louis

Fall climbing season is here. The weather is great and the views even better. On Sunday Madeleine and I decided to investigate the climbing on Saddle Mountain. We opted to climb the 4-pitch 5.9 "Rapping the Wrong Way" as an introduction to the cliff. What a spectacular area - we will return to sample the other routes!

Paul booked the day off on Monday and despite a long day on Sunday (he climbed Castle Mtn) he was keen to join me on the Gmoser Route on Mt. Louis. We woke up at 4:45am and were back home around 11pm. With a long approach, many long pitches (17 or so), ten short rappels and a never ending hike back down, it is a monster day. Car to car we made the ascent in 15 hours and 45 minutes. But what a beautiful day it was - we climbed in a tshirt all day (a rarity for alpine routes) and had the mountain to ourselves. Another fantastic fall day!
